Major proposal for a new brewery, visitor centre and restaurant for The Wild Beer Co.
We are very excited to announce that the major proposal for a new brewery, visitor centre and restaurant for The Wild Beer Co. secured detailed planning consent this month.
This is a genuinely innovative scheme for a company which is a leader in craft and speciality beers. The Wild Beer Co. has a relatively short history but has achieved outstanding growth and distinction with its products.
It is fantastic news that this locally based company is committed to growing in Mendip at the Bath & West Showground.
The project is unique and brings to Somerset a visitor destination the like of which is more usually only found in world class wine growing areas.
The grant of this planning permission is a landmark in the regeneration of the Bath & West Showground and now paves the way for the formal adoption of the Local Development Order which will provide super fast planning for further phases.

Zone 3 also has the benefit of a Local Development Order which will provide FastTrack Planning and Business Rates Relief to qualifying occupiers.
At the northen end of Zone 3 The Mendip School has been handed over and already has its first intake of pupils. This is an Exemplar School which specialises in the education of children with A.S.D. £10M INVESTMENT MARKS THE START OF THE BATH & WEST REGENERATION
Work has now commenced on the construction of infrastructure to open up the first phases of development at the Bath & West Showground. This will provide a vastly improved new northern entrance. At the same time construction is underway of the Mendip School which will be completed this Autumn. The school specialises in the education of children with A.S.D. and communication difficulties. The initial intake will be 30 pupils which will increase to 120 over the next few years. The school will have sports facilities which will be available for community use and the school itself will be adding a swimming pool in due course.
Richard Froggatt, M.D. of London & Wharfedale the site’s developer said - “A start on site has been long awaited. This is a trail blazing scheme brought forward through the recession and it is immensely satisfying to get underway.
With the support of Mendip District Council we have also secured a Local Development Order for the first 20 acres which enables faster track planning permission for commercial uses. DEFRA has also designated part of the site as a Food Enterprise Zone and discussions are in hand to bring forward food grade commercial units. Read the full article from Commercial Property Monthly…
We are also dealing with serious enquiries for 150000 sq ft of new business units and in due course we will see a hotel, visitor destination retail and further business use development. Up to 100 acres of land is included in the proposals which will secure huge economic benefits for Mendip and the wider area.”
